You start Save the World playing a Soldier, and in many ways the Soldier is the easiest class to play. Just grab your gun, point it at the nearest Husk and shoot them. But the more you play with Soldiers and their abilities, the more you realise how much these bad boys and girls can do. They have powerful combat abilities that can turn around a fight, along with useful support abilities that can help everyone on the team fight better. So put on that helmet, strap on your boots, and go and teach the Husks a lesson or two!
Active Abilities
Going Commando
Is it all looking hopeless? Are you surrounded by Husks? Pull out your massive Chaingun and blast away at the varmints. Going Commando is great for wiping out weak Husks, or you can focus your fire on tougher Smashers and Blasters. Don’t waste it though – hold it back for when you genuinely need it, and you are facing a big bunch of Husks.
War Cry
Inspire your fellow warriors with a rousing War Cry. Every ally in range gets a damage boost for every weapon, plus either a higher fire rate with their guns or a faster attack speed with any melee weapon. You can see who is affected by the aura that appears around them after the cry.
Lefty & Righty
Fancy yourself a gunslinger? Well, this rootin’, tootin’ two-gun bullet storm is the one for you. Your Soldier will pull out two awesome pistols, which you can use to blast away at all those Husks and Misties. Like Going Commando, it is brilliant for taking down a Husk horde quickly or slaying a Smasher before they hit your walls. Remember to pull both triggers if you are playing on a controller!
Frag Grenade
Hurl ones of those exploding pineapples and wait for the explosion. It takes a while to get used to the throwing arc and develop an eye for range but get the knack and you will be lobbing them in a flash, dealing masses of damage to any Husks in the damage zone. Watch the circular target on the ground to see where you are aiming and the area of effect. Use these beauties to cut down the numbers when hangs of Husks are attacking, but never waste them on a single target.
Shockwave
Leap in the air, then slam down into the ground to deliver a circular shockwave that will eliminate any weaker Husks. Melee combat isn’t usually a Soldier’s thing, but Shockwave is the best Soldier move when you need to charge into a fight. It is also really useful for clearing Husks from your walls.
Passive Abilities
Suppressive Fire
Soldiers are the masters when it comes to ranged weapons, and Suppressive Fire is one good reason why. Keep shooting at the same target, and each consecutive shot will do more damage, up to a maximum that depends on your Soldier’s current level.
Stay Frosty
Soldiers get another top ranged weapon perk. Just slay a set number of Husks and you will get a bonus to ranged weapon damage and reduced recoil while you are firing, making it easier to get follow-up shots on target. Take aim and fire!
Up Your Firepower
Soldiers have a serious affinity with ranged weapons and especially assault rifles. It is always worth checking whether your Soldier sub-class has any weapon-specific perks, then packing the right rifle in your backpack.
You will also find Soldier perks such as Bigger is Better, which boosts Frag Grenades or Bang and Pow/Zip and Zap, which enhances Lefty & Righty. These are often tactical perks, which will work when you add that Hero to your Hero Loadout. There are even some useful perks, such as Fight or Flight, that give a big boost to War Cry!
Also look out for perks such as the Urban Assault Headhunter’s Make It Rain, which boost headshot damage or critical hit damage. If you have a good aim, you will get through the toughest Mist Monsters in no time.
