You will want to have a good mix of types to swap in and out depending on the opponents you face in Pokemon. Let’s have a look at how getting a team of diverse Pokemon can aid you on your quest to be the next Champion.
There is no perfect team, but here are some example teams you could put together pretty early in the game, depending on which Pokemon you chose as your first partner – and an explanation of why it would make sense to do it.
A Grookey-centric Team
Grookey
Let’s say you started your adventure with the Grass-type Pokemon Grookey…
Rookidee
Grookey is weak to Bug-type moves, so we might add Rookidee because Flying-type moves are super effective against Bug-type Pokemon.
Sizzlipede
To cover Rookidee’s weakness to Ice-type moves, we can catch a Sizzlipede. Its Fire-type moves will work well on Ice-type Pokemon if they show up in battle.
Mudbray
Sizzlipede is very weak to Rock-type moves, so in comes Mudbray. Its Ground-type moves will defeat Rock-type Pokemon no problem.
Yamper
But Mudbray’s weak to Water-type moves, so next we will add Yamper to our party. Its Electric-type moves will handle pesky Water-type Pokemon.
Chewtle
Lastly, we add Chewtle to fill out the team. Yamper is weak to Ground-type moves. However, Chewtle’s Water-type moves will fend off Ground types.
A Scorbunny-centric Team
Scorbunny
Let’s say you stated your adventure with Fire-type Pokemon Scorbunny.
Gossifleur
Scorbunny is weak to Ground-type moves, so a great choice for our team is Gossifleur. Its Grass-type moves are super effective against Ground-type Pokemon.
Pidove
We will want to cover Gossifleur’s weakness to Bug-type moves, and Pidove is perfect. Its Flying-type moves will work great on Bug-type Pokemon.
Klink
However, Pidove is weak to Rock-type moves, so why not add Klink to our team? It resists Rock-type moves and its Steel-type moves are super effective against Rock-type Pokemon.
Woobat
Fighting-type moves can do a lot of damage to Steel-type Pokemon, which is why we bring in Woobat. Its Flying- and Psychic-type moves can easily handle Fighting-type Pokemon in battle.
Tyrogue
Our last Pokemon is Tyrogue. Woobat is weak to Ice-, Rock- and Dark-type moves, but Tyrogue’s Fighting-type moves are super effective against Pokemon of all three of those types!
A Sobble-centric Team
Sobble
Let’s say you started your adventure with the Water-type Pokemon Sobble…
Blipbug
Sobble is weak to Grass-type moves. Thankfully, we can easily add Blipbug to our team to help out! Its Bug-type moves will do a lot of damage against any Grass-type Pokemon.
Machop
To cover Blipbug’s weakness to Rock-type moves, we will catch Machop and add it to our party. Machop’s Fighting-type moves are strong against Rock-type Pokemon.
Stunky
Machop’s weak against Psychic-type moves, so we will catch a Stunky. It is immune to Psychic-type moves. Plus, its Dark-type moves are super effective against Psychic-type Pokemon.
Hoothoot
Next, we add Hoothoot to our team. Stunky is weak to Ground-type moves, but Hoothoot is a Flying-type Pokemon, and Flying types are immune to Ground-type moves.
Drilbur
We finish our team with Drilbur. While Hoothoot is weak to Electric-type moves, they won’t do any damage at all to Drilbur and Drilbur’s Ground-type moves will take down Electric types in a flash!
