Sea Of Thieves Video Game Review
Sea of Thieves has transformed over the last few years, and whether you want a swaggering, swashbuckling adventure or timber-shivering sea combat, there is no better way to take to the waves. In January the game hit 10 million players, making it the most successful new Xbox game of the Xbox One era.
Set sail and it is not hard to see why. Sea of Thieves now has great tutorial missions to get your boots on deck, and once you are ready to pull up the anchor you can steer your way to some brilliant quests, including the Tall Tales that emerge from the briny depths with each new update.
There are skeleton forts to be conquered, ships of the damned to be fought, mysterious chests to discover, and three different guilds to take on missions for. So, strap on that cutlass and find yourself a scurvy crew there are ships to sink and doubloons to be plundered!
Quick Tips
Hit the Taverns
Don’t ignore the strange characters in taverns. Some, like Duke or Stitcher Jim, will have new Tall Tales and voyages you can go on – or can point you toward your next adventure.
Create a Legend
Umbra, who you will find in the Lagoon of Whispers, is researching the pirate legends and the deeds of the great buccaneers. Follow her clues and gather evidence and there could be rare rewards.
Brittle Bones
All skeletons have their weakness. The shadow skeletons are vulnerable to light, gold skeletons hate water, while the mossy skeletons are weak against melee weapons.
High Adventure
Tall Tales
Tall Tales, like The Seabound Soul, put you on a quest that might involve ancient relics, battles with ghoulish pirates, and the freeing of trapped souls.
Pets
Every great pirate needs a pet, and each new update brings new cosmetics for them. Smarten them up for the holidays or give them a creepy look at Halloween.
Smoke on the Water
Firebombs can be fired out of cannons or thrown like grenades. Keep a bucket of water handy in case you need to stop the burning.
Dead Man’s Chest
Ashen chests might contain rare loot or legendary tomes you can hand to Umbra to help her with her pirate legends. You will need an Ashen key to open them, but they are well worth fighting over.
Firebombs have become one of the game’s hottest accessories. Over 9 million of them were thrown in the first month they appeared, causing 1.5 million ships to be torched and over 600,000 pirates singed.
